Panasonic HM-TA20 Blue - Shoot & Share

I recently got my hands on Panasonics latest rugged camera the HM-TA20, for me this camera meets all my needs as a parent and avid beach go, fisher man and snap alcoholic.

My kids love to take photo's and for Christmas the kids all got camera's but we didn't like to take them to the beach, just to many opportunity's for it to go for a swim. That was until we got the HM-TA20.

First Impressions

The HM-TA20 is Waterproof to 3m, Shockproof to 1.5m and dustproof all the hall marks of a child friendly camera.

The Camera looks great and feels solid and practical in the hand, as I stated before in my teaser blog my youngest is 3 and can use the camera with ease, even with my large hands I can take photo's one handed or with two.

I was surprised with the actual size of the device, I thought that it would have been smaller, so was impressed that it was a decent size.

The Camera


Front view of the HM-TA20, looks smart and nice clean lines…	View of the LCD screen and on screen menu, which I will talk about latter…

Power button bottom and Lock LCD touch screen top…	Two button combo to unlock the HDMI, Reset button and Headphone Jack ports…

Flap open from bottom to top – HDMI Port, Reset Button, Headphone Jack…	The USB Connector is found in another flap below the HDMI flap…

Once open you will find the USB connecter and a Grey square button…	By pressing the Grey square button, the USB Connector will pop out and lock enabling you to connect to your PC.

At the bottom of the HM-TA20 you will find another Waterproof flap that houses the SD Card slot…	With the Flap open the SD card slot is in the middle, the circular slot at the top is in fact mini stand that comes with the TA-20…

The Ultimate Test

Have you ever been to a 9 Year Girls party with 7 screaming girls and throw in a 10 & 3 year boys you have a nightmare of a time thinking of ways to entertain them... not this time I just threw them the HM-TA20 and said have some fun.

The girls loved it taking pics of each other possing and just having fun, when the weather started to change for the worst and we had slight rain, no problems the kids kept taking photo's knowing the HM-TA20 could handle it.

The Camera came through the ordeal a bit over used but other than being passed from many a hands no damage. Before I gave the camera to the little Princes I asked them that I would need their feed back on the camera and here is what they had to say...

"Loved it! was so easy to use..."

"Dose it come in Pink?..."

"It was so fun to use..."

"I want one..."

Things I loved and disliked

Overall I personally loved this camea and so did my family, so much so it now has become and main family camera, I still use my HTC Sensation smartphone (8 mp camera) as I my personal camera as I have it with me all the time, but wouldn't want to take it to the beach. My wife Lisa loved the simple to use menu system and that you just took the photo and let HM-TA20 do it's thing.

At the end of the day that is what is the clincher for me its Waterproof to 3m, Shockproof from 1.5m (This was tested by our three year old from about 50cm, not a problem for the HM-TA20) and is dust proof... that is a hell of a combo for a camera any every day family would want to use in Australia.

Whether you are tramping the Kimberley, Snorkling at Rottnest Island or visiting the Perth Zoo, the HM-TA20 will be there through thick and thin, through sunshine or rain.

The only thing that I would personally change and its not a deal breaker is the menu showing on the LCD, why have such a nice large screen and have half of it obsucred by the menu? Why can't the menu be on a pop up, say swip up and the meu pops up or have a small menu button at the bottom right or left corner.

So would I recommend the Panasonic HM-TA20 , Yes I would and so would my family, the HM-TA20 was so much fun to use and got us to have fun as a family taking photo's of each other and around the house.

Just been sent the Panasonc HM-TA20, and must say very impressed so far, nice camera a lot larger than I was expetcing. Here are some of the specs, will post more info soon and a review as well, my three kids aged 10, 8 & 3 have been playing with it as well, some real funny photo's taken.

My new Device - HTC Sensation

Just bought the HTC Sensation this week, awesome device, very fast, love the screen looks so vibrant. New Sense 3.0 is stunning.

Was able to get it Rooted and remove the bloat wear from the Telco.. So far battery life is great got over 11 hours plus on my first day.

Dell's cowardly E.O.L announcement for Streak 5

While back Gizmodo announced that the Dell Streak 5 was being pulled from shelves and the online stores as it might have been getting a possible overhaul of either hardware or software.

Most Streak owners were hoping for a software update possible gingerbread or even a hybrid gingerbread/ honeycomb, this dream has now been totally shattered thanks to the cowardly approach of Dell with the End of Life announcement for the Streak.

The reason behind this is the release (or up and coming release) of new devices in Europe and other markets blah...blah... blah.... to me it sounds like a load of crap.

They could have gone out with a bang instead it was a wimpier... they could have a least done the 2.3 update then EOL it.

I used to be very happy with Dell they had the Axim X51v which I loved and then hoped they would come out with something radical which in my view they had with the Streak.

I have now abandoned my Streak and currently have it on the market and its now tucked away in one of my draws awaiting its further demise. In the mean time I have poached my wife's HTC Legend and using that till I get either the HTC EVO 3D (most likely) or the HTC Sensation...

I am that frustrated with Dell and this stupid decision that I can no longer support or endorse any of their products to family, friends or work mates. Why support a company that abandoned its loyal customers.

Dell Streak Pulled from Web Stores? Why?

Some of you may have herd through the inter-web grapevine that recently Dell and it's re-sellers have pulled the Dell Streak from their websites for sale. If you check Optus website they have the following image of the Streak with a sign at the bottom "No Longer Available".

Originally people thought Dell were discontinuing the Streak and turning its back on the faithful Streak owners? It seems that they may not have and that it might be possible that the Streak could be getting a re-release in August - will it be a Hardware revamp or (HOPEFULLY) software upgrade..

Will it be Gingerbread (2.3.3) or Honeycomb (3.0), or even a Hybrid version? It may just have to be a waiting game... like most Streak owners we all check our software update via our Streaks daily.. I know I do... maybe to much?...Nah just to hopefully.

Hopefully all your answers will be answered over the next few weeks, fingers crossed.

So far no further news from Dell on when Accessoires for the Streak 5 will be released in Australia, I had heard originally that there might have been a slight glimour of hope they would have been released at the end of March... However its now May..

I mean how hard can it be? What is taking so long? As I stated in my last rant on this issue its just so frustrating that I can not get anything here in Australia and that I have to spend even more cash to get it from overseas.

Will keep you posted on this saga...

Dell abandons Australian Streak Owners! No Accessories!

Ok I have owned my Dell Streak for almost 8 months (or so) and could not find any
accessories - Chargers, Cables, Cases sold in Australia. Thats right you currently can not buy anything related to the Dell Streak (other than the Streak itself) here in Australia. If you want to get anything for your Streak have only a few options available to you

1) Buy from the UK - Come on people that's not that cost effective still very expensive, for example the Car kit cost around £42.66 GBP so about $64.89 AUD then add shipping to this and you will most like get no change from a $100 bucks.

2) Buy from the USA - This is a great place to buy for Australian's as the ozy dollar is at an all time high so better than $1 for $1, same example Dell Car kit is $39.99 USD about $37.28 AUD however that is where the good news stops then your wallet gets slammed! Shipping you could be looking at $35 - $60 AUD for it to be sent. No here is another hurdle to leap across you can buy from Dell.com unless you have a USA address! To get around this you can use some of those redirecting services where they have a American address that your purchase is delivered to then you pay a small % to the redirection company and they forward it to your address overseas. What a bloody rigmarole.

3) Buy from Asia - This is what most people have to do in the ending as the market is closer, however most if not all are 3rd party and it is Russian Roulette if you get a dud and even luckier it doesn't fry your Streak if you bought a charger.

I have luckier than most as I am a News Editor for MobilitySite and have been able to request some accessories from some great manufactures like Otterbox, PDair and shortly Mugen Batteries - I will be reviewing the 1800mAh and 4800mAh batteries for the Streak, but I still have a bitter taste in my mouth that I can't get genuine accessories for my Streak.

So why can't Dell sell or let Streak owners know when they will start selling their accessories in Australia, one so called helpful employee at Telechoice Rockingham in WA stated that the Streak is not that popular so no accessories sold by them or Optus...

Ok that is my rant for the night... doubt that Dell or even Optus give a crap about their customers.

My New setup.... iPad + Keyboard Dock + Bluetooth Mouse

After getting a bonus at work I thought great I might be able to afford a new notebook as my wife keeps highjacking mine, but no just wasn't in the budget, but not to worry here is my stop gap until we can afford it....

I already had an iPad 16GB so thought why not just add a keyboard, so I bought Apple's Keyboard Dock and as I had jail broken my iPad I was then able to download BTStack Mouse from Cydia and bought a Logitech M555b bluetooth mouse and bingo I had a possible solution to my internet craving.

The mouse can be used to open apps and with most interact on a basic to intermediate level.

Rumour: Dell Streak to get GingerBread 2.3? Or will it?

It seems that Dell might release GingerBread for the Dell Streak, this from Amy Bivin from Dell responding to @Arc28 via twitter. If they are releasing 2.3 I hope they don’t draw it out like they did with 2.2.

I remember when I was looking at the OTA upgrade last year and asking Amy about it. For starters I bought my Streak from TeleChoice here in Australia out right for $749 AUD and use it currently on Vodafone with no problems, I asked Amy when would we see the Official update for Australian Streaks, response was that my Streak (All Australian Streaks) was locked to Optus network so would get in December 2010 when the carrier released it… If it was looked do you think I could use it on Vodafone?… Just goes to show they haven't got a clue. In the ending I did manually update it to the Official ROM.

Launcher Pro+ on my Dell Streak

Since I updated my Dell Streak to 2.2 I lost a bit of the screen real-estate to Dell's new Stage UI, the new UI widgets looks ok but takes away the whole use of the lovely 5" screen.

I love to customise my devices when ever I get the chance, I did this on my old Axim X51v, Moto Q9h and the HTC HD2. Now I have added my Streak to this list with the use of a 3rd party Launcher software namely Launcher Pro+, I have looked at AWD Launcher, Open Home, Go Launcher but with these apps I was Not able to add a Dock background that looked good.

Here is my current setup, really happy with it, nice looking and simple.

With the Dell Streak's update looming closer and closer most Streak owners have been checking daily if not for me hourly it seemed there was some movement as it changed from just text to showing Dells logo.

Android on HTC HD2... is it a good thing?

Most HD2 people that own the HD2 have been left in the lurches by Microsoft after they announced that they would not be updating the HD2 to WP7, even after it was first advised by HTC that it would...

With the new kid on the block - Android taking the market share in leaps and bounds it didn't take long for the Whiz Kids over at XDA to port the Android OS over to the HD2, currently you have to boot from the root of you SD card and use "CLRCD" to enable sound and "HARET" to boot the ROM.

Most ROMs are cooked off either the EVO 4G, Nexus and desire ROM's or a bit of all are mixed depending on the chief, each has pro's and con's involved and all are still been worked on as new Kernels come out and fixes to bugs or on going issues for example

- Robot voice on calls
- Echo / background noise
- Camera not working (Desire HD ROM Beta)
- Some data connections
- SOD (Sleep Of Death)

I have been trying out the latests builds from the chiefs at XDA and some work great, but for me it just is not at the level that I can say "Hey this is an OS I can use on a daily bases on my HD2". I think this might change once someone can complete a NAND base ROM.

And that is the next argument Boot from SD or NAND - for me NAND is a must as I turn off my HD2 at least twice a week - I work for a Mobile Phone repair centre and we advise all customers to do this to help with reconnection to the network, enable the handset to have a power cycle (this happens a lot for iPhone 3GS users that never turned their handset off and then found their iPhone had turned off while in their pocket, bag etc) and clear cache system.

The problem with turning off the HD2 with Android is that when it powers back up it reboots back into Windows, so with it going to NAND this would hopefully not happen, have to wait and see.

Hopefully I will look at some of the new Android ROMs going to the HD2 and post my reviews of them over at MobilitySite.com so keep any eye out over their and here.

[Review] Boxwave Armor case

I decided to repost this review I did for both Tech@Play and MobilitySite.com here on my Blog...

For those people that need a little more protection for their devices wether it is on a belt clip or in your pocket then maybe the Armor Case is for you. This review is on the 'Open Front' Case.

I am not new to Boxwave's Armor style cases, as I have bought one for my Motorola Q9h Smartphone a few years back and as you can see my Armor Case on the Moto Q9h has taken a bit of punishment on the plastic screen but is still going strong.

As per my last review (Boxwave CorsaModa Leather Case) I will be using the same review key indicators on how the Armor case stacks up.

* Style - How does the case fit in with its look

* Price - Does the price reflect the product.

STYLEThe Armor case feels very strong, but surprisingly very light. The black metal finish looks great and ties in nicely with the HD2's over all look and feel.

3. The Case looks great, feels strong and
gives a sence of protection...

PROTECTION
Once the HD2 is in its nice and tight giving a very secure feeling, one thing I learn't from my Boxwave Armor case that I got for my Motorola Q9h is that the little clip needs to be bent downwards a little to get a better fit when the front of the case is closed.

4. The HD2 slots in smoothly, has excellent padding inside
the case to give you added protection...

FUNCTIONAILTY
The Case gives very good functionailty overall, pretty much the same as the CorsaModa Lethaer case I reviewed last week, they have thought about were everything need to go and it just works.

6. You have full access to the volume keys...

7. The hinge is not large so is not adding thickness to the case...

8. Camera, Flash & Speaker all nicely done on the back also...

DESIGN
The metal finishing of the case is very good, no metal burrs, the HD2 fits very nicely and has a secure tight fit.

but as I stated before if you bend the latch a little
inwards then it will close very tight against the case...

PRICE

OUTCOME
I have tested this case both using the Belt Clip and in my pocket and found that I was a bit dubious about having it on my hip with the screen facing out and exposed, however found it was so much easier in my poket with the screen facing towards me.

So after all my testing and checking I would still highly recommend this case to anyone, it was light weight, but added loads of protection, could be used on belt or in your pocket..

[Review] Boxwave CorsaModa Leather Case

I posted a review of Boxwave's - CorsaModa Leather Case for the HTC HD2 (EU and Asia Pacific version) at Tech@Play and expanded on a thread posted on MobilitySite.com, so I thought I would post my full review here on my Blog as well. From the first day I bought my HTC HD2 I have been looking for a leather case, do you think it was easy No!, well the guys at Boxwave think they have a winner, so I took the challenge and was sent the CorsaModa Leather case to see how it would handle every day use. I received my Review case and I can tell you it was worth the wait.

1. Christmas has arrived early for me, can't wait to see what the case looks like, box contains the CorsaModa case (of course) and the Belt clip & stud.

For this review I will be looking at the following key indicators and how the CorsaModa case stacks up.

* Style - How does the case fit in with it's look
* Protection - Does it protect my HD2
* Functionality - Does it meet my every day needs
* Design - How well has the case been designed and made
* Price - Does the price reflect the product.

STYLE
To me the case is all business, just feels so solid, the case looks great with the black and red strip down the middle the contrast red & black looks smart, also the red stripe has a nice pattern.

PROTECTION
Once I had gotten my HD2 in the Case, I must admit the whole thing just felt so nice and solid, I have some cheap cases and you can tell that they are just adequate a little padding and not much else, but the CorsaModa case has some nice padding on the flip cover.

3. The case has two SD card slots and two business / credit cards slots, also has velvet inner giving more protection...

5. Once the HD2 is in its nice and tight giving a very secure feeling...
FUNCTIONAILTY
The CorsaModa Case gives you access to all your keys from the front 5 buttons, the volume keys, charger and headphone jack point, also on the back of the case you cut outs for your Camera/ Flash and speaker. The great thing I like about the case is that with the front flip shut you still have access to your headphone jack.

DESIGN
Of all the cases with magnetic clasps, I think Boxwave got it right with the CorsaModa case as you can see in Pic 10. the back has a cut out that the magnetic clasp fits into. The belt clip fits nicely with the case and has movement if knocked, also very easy clip release system.

The stiching on the case is very well done, with the red it looks great on the black and flows from the front.

Test Location 1: Work - I work for a mobile repair centre for 3 Mobile, in my roll I am up and down from my desk talking to Technicians or assisting them with repairs, I need a case that almost feels as if it is not there, until I need it.

Test Location 2: Train Station - Walk down (and Up) esculators you can get knocked around by bags, people and walls with this case it felt secure.

Test Location 2a: On the Train - Either sitting down or standing on the train, the case gave me the protection that I needed to give me peace of mind that my HD2 was protected.

Test Location 3: At Home - I always like having my HD2 close by, with the Home wi-fi network it is very easy to get online and surf the net, check emails etc and I like to keep my device away from my kids, just clip the HD2 on and I am mobile.

So after all my testing and checking I would highly recommend this case to anyone, I just found it meet all of my needs and more.

[Review] Laurentius26 WWE HD2 ROM

Here is a nother mini-review I did at Tech@Play and also over at MobilitySite.com

Since I have had my HD2 I have tried both Stock ROM (1.66, 1.72) and Cooked ROMS (Dutty, NRG, Miri) and still haven't found a ROM that meets all my needs from Stability, Speed, Looks and overall use... Until now.

I found Laurentius26 GoldEdition V2.1 Default/Spike™ WWE 23568 based on 2.13 for both HD2 US/EU devices.

Here are some pics of my HD2 with Laurentius26 ROM, I am using the following Mods and apps.

I have found the main icons that Laurentis used is Coquette Icons set (8 in Total) there are 50 icons in each set, they come in the following sizes: 16x16px, 24x24px, 32x32px, 48x48px, 64x64px and 128x128px, I used 128x128.

With the quick links you can see I have add Co0kie's Notification Icon, Toggle Switchs and Settings Icons, now I have also used Spike's Co0kie Icon Fix to change the look of the icons. I have also taken away the background for the icons and text ujsing CHTEditor.

Quick Links - Cookie Home Tab

One thing I like is the icons of the ROM, they look great and fit in with what I like pretty much all icons have been themed. As you can see all the tabs icons are themed also.

I have used JWMD Icon Changer to change all other icons to the Coquette iconset.

I personally think the icons look great on the HD2, even in the contacts people icons and bottom icons fit in very well.

OVER VIEW
So far the ROM is very stable, fast and is close to stock. The biggest problem I have is the lack of storage after a cooked ROM is installed as the chef also puts in his or her apps/mods and other tweks which overall incresaes the size of the ROM on one occasion I only had 80MB left after installing one ROM with the Laurentius ROM I had 168MB left then after adding a few mods etc and the icons I currently have 140MB ROM left.

I have used other Chef's ROM's from Dutty (htcpedia.com), Miri (htcpedia.com) & NRG (xda-developers) each have there own style and idea's.

So I recommend head over to Laurentius26 site here and register on his forum to downlaod your copy of this ROM, please remeber to use Bepe's HSPL found here on XDA-Developers. If you are new to cooked ROMs them I recommend that you take the time to visit XDA-Developers and read there "Flashing your First GSM 512LEO Rom (For Noobs)". Well thats my take of this great ROM, have fun.

I was checking out XDA-Developers a few weeks ago and found a nice little App by dotcompt which is based on an app form the HTC Wildfire. It has now been updated to 2.0.

"I decided to have a look at both my old iPhone 3G and my new HTC HD2 and compare some of the functions that they have and give my personal view on what I like. The iPhone is running OS 3.1.3 and is not Jail broken, the HD2 is running Sense 2.5 on stock rom 1.66 (WWE) it has only one tweak Co0kies Home Tab.

Background: For all of 2009 I was using the iPhone 3G, the last time I used a WinMo touch screen device was my old Dell Axim X51v (Non-Phone) and my Apache (PPC-6700) in 2008. Now this is my PERSONAL view so take it as it is... enjoy.

LOCK SCREEN
Lock Sceen

As you can see the lock screens have similar information like the – Time, Date, Battery Indicator, Network, and unlock system. Now the HD2 has three very important differences that I love (^)

HTC HD2 (16GB microSD)
1. Time, Date, Battery Indicator, Network, and unlock system
2. Calendar info on lock screen^
3. Slider moves left and right giving better one handed operation ^
4. Notification alerts via unlock button – tap shows alert – swipe left or right opens application.^

Also the HD2 can Bluetooth my contacts to other handsets. On HD2 you can access your most used contacts via the People tab which gives you 15 photo contacts.

I must admit that I am really liking Opera 10 with zoom set at 100%. Another thing I like now is the ability to download .CAB files OTA and install my apps all from the Web Browser.

Ok so this one wasn't really head to head with default apps but as I use Twitter a lot decided to add it, now Peep which is HTCs default Twitter client, its not the best Twitter Client but is there by default so no further purchases are required. Now the HD2 does have some other Twitter clients like moTweets, TouchTwit which are more fully featured than Peep. But straight out of the box and getting on Twitter is very fast and easy with the HD2.

UPDATE: Twitter has bought out Tweetie 2 and made it the Official Twitter client for the iPhone and renamed it “Twitter”.

The HD2 enable me to access settings for a wide range of programs and controls. The iPhone does have a nice easy setup but in my book falls way short of giving you control of your phone.

CONCLUSION

Well that was a very interest look for me 10 to 1 in favour of the HD2, as for all the iPhone fans out there who may think this head to head was a bit more of a WinMo fan boy bashing the iPhone, you will be sorry to hear that in fact for the past year I was bashing WinMo phones and at a drop of a hat would tell people, customers and anyone who would listen to get the iPhone.

I have using WinMo for 9 years before going to the dark side for all of 2009 with the iPhone. WinMo 6.5 (and for some 6.5.3 & 6.5.5) has come a long way from the early years of 2003, WM5, WM6 & WM6.1. We all know that WinMo is not perfect but with the added support of HTC's Sense 2.5 UI it makes it a great tool to use.

With the release of the latest iPhone due in July/August of this year, I would say could put it close to the HD2 but still would not meet and or exceed the capabilities of this mammoth handset. Another phone that I think would give the HD2 a run for its money is none other than another HTC device the HTC Desire running Android 2.1, one of my work mates is a TOTAL WinMo Fan Boy, but when his Diamond decided to kick the bucket, he was given an opportunity to get his hands on the Desire after a few days he now has found that the Desire is a great device, the first thing he liked is the Screen.

HTC HD2

Well I have finally come back to the land of WinMo, as I now have bought the HTC HD2. This mammoth power house of a device sports a 4.3 inch screen with power to boot - 1GHz processor.

I am currently writing an artical comparing the HD2 and my old iPhone 3G. It will be a head to head rounds with a winner chosen on best overall performance for that round and why I gave the point to that device.

I will most likely post it to www.mobilitysite.com and as well as part here, so check back for more info.

It has been well over 18 months that I have used a WinMo Touch screen device, my last one was the Dell Axim X51v, after that I had my Moto Q9h smartphone (non-touch device) and then my iPhone so big learning curve as I am having to get used to WinMo 6.5 and HTC Sence 2.5, which I really like, I have tried to go back to the today screen that I was so used to before like on the X51v, Apache (PPC-6700) or the Harrier (PPC-6600) but just keep going back to Sence as it makes 'Sence' to me so easy to use and with Co0kie Monstors (XDA-Developers) mods for the Home tab - Giving more shortcut icons on 3 pages either 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 and then adds more to the calendar info - allows you to swipe down and show up to next 5 or so appointments.

So far I have only tried one cooked ROM didn't like it and when I tried to add one of the authors cabs it froze at the White screen with HTC logo, had to root via MicroSD with the original stock ROM. So I finally fixed that and then reflashe the ROM to 1.66 (WWE) which has been stable and working well.

Over the Last few days I have been deciding if I should stay with Blogspot or try another blogger, well after trying Wordpress and then finally finding some great new templates for Blogspot.

I have decided to stay with Blogspot for some reasons

1) Adsence, yes I wouldlike to get some $$, who wouldn't. Wordpress.com dose NOT allow ads on their blogs, you have to buy a domain and download WordPress from Wordpress.org....

2) Blogspot's UI is by far SO MUCH better than Wordpress.com, adding posts, images, widgets and more.

[Review] WebIS - PI for iPhone v1.11.08

Over the years I have tried many PIM applications for my WinMo devices from SPB Diary, SBSH Pocket Breeze and many more, the one I kep going back and trying and seeing what was new was WebIS's Pocket Informant.

Since the begining of this year I have been using an iPhone 3G 16GB as my main device, it has been great, however we all know that the built in diary is only just adequate, I had seen Pocket Informant for the iPhone and held off for a bit just see how it developed.

I since installed PI on my iPhone and must say now that it is my main dairy and todo list. I was very impressed with how easy it was to use and enter my data.

On the Twitter board WebIS have advised they are close to nailing the Outlook sync most likely via Bonjour, this will make PI a killer app and a must for those people that need to stay in control of their day to day needs.

Great Winterboard theme...

So far I have seen some great UI themes for the iPhone from the HTC Hero UI and now one from 6Mik over at DeviantART who designed the "Whitoken" theme and also Darren Coates who did some great Mods of 6Mik's theme.

Step one you need to have jailbroken your iPhone, using either Blackr1an or Redsnow etc. Install Cydia, then install Winterboard on your iPhone.Check after the break for photo's and links.

i-wrapz skin for iPhone 3G

A couple of weekends ago I was at the Royal Perth Show and found a vender there selling i-wrapz, now since I bought my iPhone 3G back in Feb 09 I have been on the hunt for the ultimate case.

I have a number of cases from a full leather case and belt clip to standard hard & silicone cases with also a hip holster thrown in. Now my phone is fully protected as I use the hip holster and Flaming Skull themes i-wrapz. See phot's more after the break.

The surprising thing about the Wrapz is thatthey stick to certin surfaces for example Glass, Plastic, Benchs, Tiles even one of my books. See below some pics, when they guy showed me at the Royal Perth Show I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it and now you can as well.

Why has Apple crippled the iPhone's bluetooth?

I have been reading alot about this of late on the web, it now has been asked alot at work when I advise custoemrs... "By the way you can't send files (music, photo's etc) via bluetooth on your iPhone". The responce is pretty normal "What? My old Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson blah. blah ... could do that and that was over 5 years ago... oh well" and they still by it, just goes to show the power of the iPhone.
With the release of OS 3.0 most thought the Bluetooth issue would be resolved and we iPhone addicts would have one less joke the WinMo guys would throw at us.

But no It seems to me that Apple wants iTunes to be the portal to the iPhone and may be worried about music or other stuff (security threats) being transfered to the iPhone that they don't control or get a kick back from. I mean come on all of my old WinMo devices could transfer files some did very well.

If only Apple would allow sharing via bluetooth, it can be done for those who have jailbroken their iPhones you can via Cydia download (small fee now) iBluetooth it has a bluetooth stack included from most of the reviews it does what it states transfer files to and from the iPhone.
If they are so worried about iTunes media being transfered stop DRM files being transfered there must be some bright spark that could right a script etc for that.

Well I just hope that with the possible release of 3.1 OS (currently in Beta with developers) that they - Apple think long and hard about what their customer want - EVERYTHING!

Over the years I have been using Pocket PC's starting form my first iPaq rz1710 (rz1710 Review), it was a very nice little device, great for me to start with.

Then came the Harrier (for those in the USA - PPC-6600) came along with Telecom, which I bought I liked this phone / PPC because of the portrait slide out keyboard which was great for texting, it ran WM 2003.

After WM5 was released I was interested in the Apache (PPC-6700), I had seen on the website that the Apache had 64MB RAM and 128MB flash ROM, to my surprise it had less memory (RAM) than my Harrier, I went to my local Telecom store to enquire about the device, I asked them why it had less memory, their reply was less than inspiring... They knew NOTHING.

In the ending I had to go onto the Sprint website to find out that WM5 had a NEW memory management system that it used ROM rather than RAM to store programmes and that it used RAM to run the apps... You would think that a Telco would have staff trained and know what they are selling.

In the end I did buy it, I loved the compact size compared to the Harrier, the areal was a pain but got over that in a hurry, the slide out keyboard was so much better than the Harrier's and I just loved. Now here is the reason I sold it and said I would NEVER EVER would go back to a PPC / Phone device...

The ringing time! My wife would ring me and she would have 6 rings to my 1 ring, I did a registry hack and got it down to 4 rings to 1 ring, I just kept on missing calls and my wife couldn't get a hold of me, so went back to a standard mobile phone.

I didn't give up on PPC totally, I then bought my Dell Axim X51v (Axim X51v Review) which I loved, it was powerful and robust for what I need it for, Dairy, eBooks, Word Docs, Surfing the net on our Wi-Fi network at home.

Since the release of the iPhone (1st Gen) and then the iPod Touch, being a techno Geek I had to have an iPod Touch as I saw this as more than an iPod it was a Music Player, Contacts, Calendar, Wi-Fi, Internet and now much more with the release of the App Store, love this iPod and would recommend it over the Classic or the Nano also prices are coming down.

In 2008 I bought my first Smartphone a Motorola Q9h, now don't go and say but you stated you would NEVER EVER go back to a PPC / Phone, but the Q9h is a Smartphone, for those that have been mislead by Microsoft who coined every WM device with a phone a "Smartphone", they are not there are PPC Phones (Harrier, Apache) which have a "Touch Screen" and a Smartphone (Moto Q9h, Dash) which have a NON-Touch Screen and use the directional D-Pad to move through the screen.

Now the Moto Q9h (Vodafone - Yes I have moved) is very fast on picking up the call with in 1 to 1 1/2 rings, I found that the Qwerty Keyboard is a dream, even better than the Apache's which I thought was the best out at that stage. Even though there is a smaller amount of Apps for Smartphone’s compared to Pocket PC devices it is getting better as more and more companies are porting their main stay apps across to the Smartphone platform.

In February on 2009 I decided to move to Perth in Western Australia, in doing this I pretty much sold up my devices my old Axim X51v, Portable BT Keyboard and many other itmes to then purchase my iPhone 3G (16GB) one of the best purchases I have every made, I was thinking about going back to the windows platform however found that it has changed much over the years (might change once WinMo 7 is finally released), however with the release of apples new 3.0 OS for iPhone and iPod touch it has finally gotten us to the level of the WinMo devices.
